Jordan hosts regional workshop on "Building Adult Learning and Education Systems Through Peer Review Approach"

As part of ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of adult learning and education worldwide, a specialized training workshop titled "Building Adult Learning and Education Systems Through Peer Review Approach" was held in Jordan. This workshop is part of the commitment by the offices of the German Adult Education Association (DVV International) in Laos, Kyrgyzstan, Sri Lanka, and Jordan to establish inclusive and sustainable educational systems that address local community needs and strengthen the capacities of professionals in this vital field. All four countries have piloted the first two phases of the Adult Learning and Education System Building Approach (ALESBA) developed by DVV International.

Analyzing findings and planning next steps

The four-day workshop (1st to 4th June 2025) aimed to facilitate knowledge exchange among participating countries following the completion of the second phase of ALESBA which is dedicated to assessing ALE structures through a peer review process. During the workshop, assessment results were analyzed, and the next steps were planned to enhance the effectiveness of ALE structures in each country. The program featured multiple interactive sessions, beginning with presentations on the findings and the scoring of the peer review assessments in each country, followed by discussions on the challenges faced by adult learning and education systems within local contexts. The agenda also included practical activities to identify potential interventions for developing or improving strategies and policies in this field.

Advancing the ALESBA approach

Additionally, the workshop included sessions to draft action plans for programs and activities to further advance the ALESBA approach. Emphasis was placed on the potential roles of DVV International offices in the coming years to refine and improve adult learning and education policies and structures in each country. The workshop concluded with the development of a roadmap to implement the outcomes achieved during the training program.

This collaboration among DVV International offices reflects a shared vision of building adult learning and education systems on evidence-based and methodological foundations, ensuring long-term sustainability of results.
