As part of ongoing efforts to enhance the capabilities of Community Development Centers (CDCs) and improve the quality of adult education services, DVV International in the Middle East, in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Development in Jordan, has launched a specialized training workshop titled "Adult Learning System Building Approach (ALESBA) through Peer Review." This workshop reflects DVV’s commitment to developing comprehensive, sustainable education systems that meet the needs of local communities and support the development of professionals in this vital field.
The multi-day workshop aims to familiarize participants with the principles and frameworks of the ALESBA approach, a system developed through DVV’s field experiences in Ethiopia and Uganda. At its core, ALESBA uses peer review as a critical tool for analyzing and strengthening adult education systems, providing a deeper understanding of institutional structures and operational dimensions. This approach enables a more effective and efficient delivery of services tailored to youth and adults.
Workshop Program Highlights:
The program includes interactive sessions, beginning with an introduction to the ALESBA concepts and objectives of peer review, followed by discussions on defining the scope of adult learning and education (ALE) in the local context. Participants engage in practical group exercises to apply these concepts, including creating theoretical frameworks and developing research tools to improve CDC outcomes.
The training also includes sessions on research design, where participants refine research questions and field tools tailored to different levels of administrative governance. In the final days of the workshop, participants explore how to build a comprehensive framework for evaluating technical and managerial processes in CDCs, drawing on case studies and successful examples from past projects to adopt best practices.
Fieldwork Preparation:
As part of the collaboration, the workshop includes preparatory sessions for fieldwork, clarifying team roles and responsibilities, specifying logistical needs for documentation and reporting, and ensuring streamlined coordination for data collection and analysis.
Next Steps:
The workshop concluded with a roadmap outlining the next steps, including follow-up on the key outcomes achieved in the training. DVV and the Ministry of Social Development are committed to supporting these efforts to implement the recommendations from the workshop, enhancing CDCs' ability to deliver targeted, impactful educational services.
This collaboration between DVV and the Ministry of Social Development reflects a shared vision for building a systematic, scientifically-based approach to adult learning and education that ensures long-term impact. By empowering local communities and equipping them to address adult education challenges, this initiative sets the stage for innovative, effective educational practices that improve opportunities and outcomes for learners across the region.
