Signing a memorandum of understanding to support the National Strategy for Adult Education in Palestine

Palestinian Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr. Sabri Saidam and the Regional Director of DVV International in Middle East, Mr. Nazaret Nazaretyan signed today a memorandum of understanding and cooperation for the period 2018 – 2025. The areas of cooperation include, among others, support of development and extension of the National Committee on Adult Education and continuation of support to the National Strategy for Adult Education and Lifelong Learning (NSAE) and its Action Plan, in addition to close cooperation in development and implementation of training programmes and technical support to the non-formal education and AE sector.

The ceremony took place in presence of the Representative of Germany in Ramallah Mr. Peter Beerwerth, and Dr. Rachel Folz, the Deputy Head of Development Cooperation, German Representative Office in Ramallah, in addition to Ms. Paula Malan, Senior Specialist and Head of Development at the Representative Office of Finland. Mr. Nadeem Sami, the Director General of International and Public Relations at the MoEHE, Ms. Niveen Musleh, Head of International and Public Relations Department at the MoEHE, Mr. Yousif Odeh, The Director General of General Education, Ms. Ola Issa, the Country Director of DVV International in Palestine and representatives of national and international partners of DVV International.

Minister Dr. Sabri Saidam, the Minister of Education and Higher Education, opened the meeting by reaffirming the importance of singing this memorandum of understanding with DVV International. He also expressed appreciation to the Palestinian – German cooperation which is manifested in implementation of many remarkable programmes in educational development. He stated that the Palestinian MoEHE is committed to the right to education for all, adding that the ministry has made enormous efforts in the past years to enhance this right in Palestine.

Dr. Saidam added that “partnership with DVV International for the past years has led to important national achievements that constitute now the base for further cooperation; one of the major achievements was development and approval of the National Strategy for Adult Education and Lifelong Learning by three Palestinian ministries, and the formation of a national team to develop its action plan with the leadership of the MoEHE”.

The German Representative, Mr. Peter Beerwerth stated that “Lifelong learning and adult education are a human right for all. It is essential to achieve social and economic welfare. My government is, thus very happy to support joint projects of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and DVV International financially.”

The Regional Director of Middle East at DVV International, Mr. Nazaret Nazaretyan expressed in his speech the high appreciation of DVV International to this strategic partnership and fruitful cooperation with the MoEHE. He praised the national efforts carried out by the leadership of the Ministry to achieve our common goals in supporting Adult Education. Mr. Nazaretyan added “we are gathering today again in a new stop of the many bright stops that marked this successful partnership between MoEHE and DVV International that seeks realization of better quality of Adult Education, and support of AE structures to assist in eliminating poverty and unemployment”.
